Bondage safety for beginners: the short version

Bondage safety for beginners: coiled black bondage rope, padded leather wrist cuffs and safety shears - Power Play Studio

Bondage is about trust, and bondage safety comes down to three things: agreeing on what will happen, knowing how restraints can hurt, and being able to undo everything fast.

Agree on a safeword and a silent signal before you start. Never leave a bound person alone, keep safety shears and keys within reach, and keep anything tight off the upper arm, where a nerve runs close to the surface. If hands go cold, numb or tingly, untie at once.

Halloween 2026 by the numbers: adult costumes

Witch costumes at Power Play Studio - Halloween 2026 by the numbers

Americans expect to spend $2 billion on adult Halloween costumes this year, according to the National Retail Federation's 2026 survey, and the witch is again the most popular adult costume, with 4.8 million people planning to wear one.

We counted our own shelves on 11 October 2026: 317 adult costumes in stock, and 69 of them, a little more than one in five, come in plus sizes. We have 29 witch costumes; our largest themes are angels and bunnies.

The full figures, and how we counted them: Halloween 2026 by the Numbers, on the Power Play Studio blog.

How to clean sex toys: the short version

How to clean sex toys - Power Play Studio guide

A clean toy is a safe toy. Here is the short version of our guide.

Every toy: clean it after each use with warm water and a mild, unscented soap or a toy cleaner, rinse well and let it dry completely.

Silicone, glass and stainless steel do not absorb anything. Solid silicone and steel toys with no motor can even be boiled for a few minutes.

Toys with a motor must never be boiled. Wipe them, keep water away from the charging port and charge only when dry.

Jelly, TPE and cyberskin are porous and can never be fully sterilized. Wash gently and consider using a condom on them.

Sharing: put a new condom on a shared toy for each person, and clean it fully before anyone else uses it.

The full guide also covers leather and latex gear, storage and when to replace a toy: How to clean sex toys, on the Power Play Studio blog.

Which lube to use with toys and condoms

Which lube to use with toys and condoms - Power Play Studio guide

The wrong lube can ruin a toy or weaken a condom. Here is the short version of our guide.

Water-based lube is safe with every condom and every toy material. If you are unsure, choose this one.

Silicone-based lube lasts longer and is safe with latex condoms, but it can damage silicone toys over time.

Oil-based lube, including baby oil and coconut oil, must never be used with latex condoms. Oil weakens latex. It is fine with glass and metal toys.

Hybrid lube mixes water and a little silicone, so test it first on a silicone toy.

The full guide covers every toy material, latex-free condoms and how to clean up afterwards: Which lube to use with sex toys and condoms, on the Power Play Studio blog.

Latex and leather: fit and care

Latex wear care tip from Power Play Studio

Latex and leather look effortless when they are worn well, and both reward a little knowledge about fit and care.

Latex

Latex wear needs a dressing aid to get into and a silicone-free shine to look right. Store it away from light, metal and anything copper, or it will stain and perish. Talc the inside before it goes away, every time. Browse latex wear at Power Play Studio.

Leather

Leather wear runs from full coats down to a single cuff, in real hide and convincing substitutes. Hide has almost no give once a seam is set, so measure rather than guess: a leather piece that is tight in the shop will still be tight in a year. Leather wants conditioning once or twice a year, and should be stored hanging rather than folded. See leather wear at Power Play Studio.

Chastity

Chastity removes the choice entirely, through cages, belts and locking rings. Base ring size decides everything: too tight bruises within an hour, too loose slips off. Most sets ship with three rings so you can find the fit before committing. See chastity devices at Power Play Studio.

Sensory play: blindfolds, gags and wax

Blindfolds buying and care tip from Power Play Studio

Sensory play takes one sense away so the others sharpen: blindfolds, hoods, gags and earplugs, used alone or stacked. Removing sight alone changes a scene more than most people expect, and costs almost nothing to try.

Blindfolds

Blindfolds are the cheapest way to change an entire scene. Look for a nose baffle, because without one most light leaks in from below and the effect is half of what it should be. Padded versions stay comfortable far longer. Browse blindfolds at Power Play Studio.

Gags

Ball gags are sized by ball diameter, and the jump from 40mm to 50mm is much larger than the numbers suggest. Start at 40mm or below. Breathable versions are drilled through, which matters more the longer one stays in. See ball gags at Power Play Studio.

Wax

Wax play needs low-temperature candles made for skin and nothing else, because household wax burns. Drip height controls the heat far more than the flame does: higher means cooler by the time it lands. Test on your own forearm first. Find wax play candles in the store.

Impact play: weight, surface and where to land

Paddles buying and care tip from Power Play Studio

Impact toys differ in two measurements that matter and a great many that do not. The two are weight and surface area.

Wide and light: where to start

Wide, light and flat spreads force across the skin and gives sting without much depth. Paddles, flat leather slappers and light floggers sit here, and this is where to start. Paddles are rigid and single-piece, so the whole swing goes into the body as a deep thud rather than a surface sting. Material changes the sensation more than shape or price does. Browse paddles at Power Play Studio.

Narrow and heavy: not for beginners

Narrow and heavy concentrates force into a small area and reaches deeper. Canes, crops, quirts and heavy single-tails sit here and are far less forgiving of poor aim. These are not beginner tools.

Thud or sting

Suede and soft leather are thuddy. Rubber, acrylic and rattan sting. Wood sits between the two and changes with thickness. Floggers spread a blow across many falls, so the same swing reads as thud or sting depending on the hide, the length and the number of tails: heavier and wider means thud, thin and few means sting.

Where to land

Stay to the buttocks and the backs of the thighs. Avoid the lower back where the kidneys sit, the spine, the tailbone and any joint. Warm up gradually rather than opening at full force.

Care

Leather and suede want conditioning once or twice a year, and should be stored hanging rather than folded. See the full range of impact play toys at Power Play Studio.

Afterwards

Aftercare is the part that gets skipped, and the part people remember. Arnica for marks, soothing balm for friction, warm layers and something sweet. Having it ready beforehand matters more than what you choose. See aftercare essentials.

Restraint basics: cuffs, rope, steel and collars

Cuffs and restraints buying and care tip from Power Play StudioRestraint is one of the first things people want to try, and one of the easiest to get wrong. The gear runs from starter cuff sets to steel and heavy leather. Choose it on fit, and on how fast it comes off.

Cuffs

Cuffs should hold without putting weight on a joint, and you should be able to slide two fingers between the cuff and the skin. Lined leather and neoprene spread pressure better than bare nylon webbing. Buckles and panic clips release faster than knots, padlocks or ratchets, and that speed is the whole point. Browse Power Play Studio's bondage and restraint gear.

Rope

Rope bondage comes down to length and diameter. Six millimetre rope in thirty foot lengths covers most single-limb ties; thinner bites, thicker spreads pressure. Jute and hemp hold a knot and have tooth. Cotton, nylon and MFP are softer, cheaper and far easier to wash. See bondage rope at Power Play Studio.

Steel

Shackles and handcuffs are the rigid end of restraint: steel, lockable, and unforgiving of a wrong angle. Double-locking models stop the ratchet tightening further under struggle, which is the feature worth paying for. Never use them without the key present. Find them under shackles and handcuffs.

Collars

Collars run from day collars that pass in public to heavy locking pieces with a welded D-ring. Neck measurement decides fit, and most adjust by about two inches. A collar you cannot get a finger under is too tight, whatever it looks like. See collars and leads at Power Play Studio.

The rules that do not change

Keep safety shears within reach whenever rope, tape or wrap is in use, and never leave a restrained person alone. Steel and silicone wash properly and can be shared. Rope and nylon webbing cannot be fully cleaned, so keep those to one person. Leather wants occasional conditioning.
